Greek

Sorry for not posting lately, yes I know I’ve been a bum about that. My apologies, really. In truth, the pressure and need to study has been high. Three weeks down and seven more to go. And the Greek forms, declensions, conjugates, and vocabulary (ohoooooooooooooooooohhhh the vocabulary).

But class is still good, tough, but good, hard, but entertaining, exciting, and fascinating (especially for 3 reasons: 1- I learn/relearn about the finer points of my own mother tongue; 2- I learn the finer points and nuances of a new languages (albeit a kind-of dead language); and 3- I am learning to read the Bible in its original languages…how cool is that).

Our professor is the “king of Greek”. In many ways he is like the Wizard of Oz, as he works his magic in helping us understand and learn this language by making it fun, useful, exciting. In every class he shares his passion for this language and the last 50 years (37 of those teaching it) of his life studying this be so real to us and pass that on to us.

In addition to all this Rachel and the kids (& all our stuff) got here last Saturday. Needless to say this week has been an adjustment to learning how to study, father, be a spouse, move-in, and just manage my time.

Thank you so much for all your prayers and support; please keep us in them. Rachel has been an amazing champ – 5 of the 6 living spaces in our 4-bedroom apartment have been basically set-up and settled into. And the kids are adjusting well too (they’ve had an evening VBS this week at friend’s church; great stuff).

And so it goes…

So I got to seminary on Saturday afternoon, 6/9/2012. Everything was a little familiar due to my visit last October and missionary training here 13 years ago (but I’m having a little trouble pulling all that much from those 13 year old memories).

Sunday I spent the day with Micah’s godparents. At their church, then out to lunch with them, and then back to their home. Wonderful and relaxing, encouraging and reflective.

Kind of seemed like the calm before the storm.

Then Sunday evening, back to sem, meet and greets, a campus tour, and the evening ended with meeting professors, the sem president, and my classmates for the summer (some of whom I knew would be here, others I didn’t/hadn’t met till now, and others with whom we have an already strange connection [like 6 degrees of “Lutheran” seperation]).

Monday morning 8-11am–My first Greek class. Interesting, entertaining, and encouraging. God has really blessed us with a great professor whon loves Greek, has been teaching it for over 37 years, and loves teaching and investing in his students.

I’m now finished with my third day of class, still enjoying it, and feeling blessed by the classes and wanting to study and learn more. God is good. The seminary life and environment is definitely different from the last 10 years, but there are many more strengths and joys than anything else.

Now the goal is just to study and learn all I can each day…to “show-up” and take one step/day at a time; to pray each day and stay in a devotional life; to pray and spend time with my family, and to enjoy them and this place with them; and to work hard at everything as “unto the Lord”.

10 days till Rachel, the kids, and all our stuff gets here…10 days. It will go by quick, but will also be long.

They are almost here; we are almost a whole family again. We are almost fully into this “new season of life” for us.

And we are feeling very blessed.

Going to a Bible College is expensive. On top of that, finding a scholarship can be really difficult. That’s why I was so excited to find the Bible College Scholarship website today. Not only are they giving away a $1,000.00 scholarship and a digital theological library, all I had to do to apply was watch a short video and answer a few questions! It took less than 15 minutes.

What is best of all is that if you’re in Bible College and apply for the Bible College Scholarship, and put my name as the person who referred you, if you win the scholarship, so do I! <strong>We could both get a $1,000.00 scholarship and digital theological library.

So, do us both a favor and go apply for the Bible College Scholarship today.
