A friend of mine from Iceland told me once that in Icelandic they have a word that means “long-tired”. She explained that there is no good way to directly translate this word into English. The best way to describe it is “to feel bone-tired for a long period of time.” That is how we feel right now. Two weeks ago one of the worst allergy seasons started for my son Josiah, just in time for the new school year. Last week all the children contracted a bad respiratory virus which put my third child, Micah, in the hospital this weekend with an asthma attack. To top things off, we had tried to have a graduation party for Toby, which was inevitably canceled until further notice. Late nights, constant nose blowing, sneezing, coughing, hundreds of tissues, stuffy noses, and the like is leaving us feeling long-tired.
If life, job, relationships, school, and ministry could just take a break while we get through this, it would be so much easier, but they don’t. Life goes on, even when you are sick. But I am reminded that “God’s grace is sufficient for me.” We will get through this, someday I will have a full night’s sleep and won’t even remember how tired I feel right now. And I am resting in the knowledge that God knows my struggles, and many friends understand how we feel and are lifting us up in their prayers. Thanks for your prayers and I pray that you are resting well!
